Local mobile phone manufacturing and assembly plants in Pakistan recorded a sharp 35% month-on-month (MoM) decline during April 2026, breaking recent production momentum due to changes in both macroeconomic factors and supply conditions.
KARACHI: According to the most recent officially released statistics, as reported by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), there were 1.81 million mobile phones manufactured during the month of April, 2026. This is a dramatic decrease from the 2.79 million manufactured during March, 2026.. In spite of this sudden fall, it is evident that the overall production output of the first four months of the year reflects the significant strides made by local industries.
Cumulative Production and Market Share Analysis
During the first four months of 2026 (4M2026), local assembly plants successfully manufactured a total
of 9.17 million mobile phone units. This cumulative output underscores the massive capacity of
Pakistan’s domestic telecom infrastructure.
However, the supply contraction in April directly impacted the country’s reliance on indigenous
production. Local manufacturing fulfilled 83% of Pakistan’s total mobile phone demand in April 2026. This
represents a visible decline from March 2026, when local factories satisfied 89% of the market’s
requirements. Looking at the broader picture for 4M2026, local assembly plants met an average of 85%
of the aggregate national mobile phone demand, leaving the remaining portion to completely built unit
(CBU) imports.
| KEY METRIC | MARCH 2026 | APRIL 2026 | MOM CHANGE (%) | 4M2026 CUMULATIVE |
| Units Manufactured | 2.79 Million | 1.81 Million | -35.1% | 9.17 Million |
| Market Demand Met | 89% | 83% | -6.0% | 85% |
Data Comparability and Year-on-Year Limitations
Market analysts looking for year-on-year (YoY) benchmarks will find that a direct comparison for April 2026 and the 4M2026 period remains impossible. The PTA published its production figures for April and May 2025 on a combined, cumulative basis last year. This prevents researchers from isolating individual monthly baselines for an exact historical comparison.
Strategic Market Outlook
This 35% fall illustrates the fragility of Pakistan’s smartphone production chain with respect to any alterations in its supply chain and import processes. Although the fall in April put an end to the upward trend, the high degree of self-sufficiency of 85% in 4M2026 clearly highlights that domestic production still stands out in Pakistan’s telecommunication sector.
