KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange PSX Crosses 600,000 Investors level for the first time ever, indicating a substantial increase in retail interest and confidence in the Pakistani capital markets. It is undoubtedly among the most robust indicators of increasing popular participation in equities investment within Pakistan to date.
PSX Crosses 600,000 Investors: Record Numbers for July
As per figures released by the Finance Ministry on Thursday, there were a total of 607,025 investors in July, of which 23,973 had opened their new accounts that very month. This is the second highest number of investors ever added in a single month.
"The latest expansion can be attributed mainly to Generation Z investors and rookie retail investors," according to the finance ministry. This demographic development indicates that younger demographics, who were traditionally less represented among Pakistani retail investors, are beginning to take interest in Pakistan's equity market as a means of accumulating capital. These statistics suggest that there has been significant diversification in the composition of Pakistan's retail investor base, which might prove crucial to the PSX's future performance.

The latest numbers reveal that reaching the milestone of 600,000 investors on the PSX comes amid expansion of the number of investors by more than 332,000 since June 2022. The number of investors has increased from around 275,000 to more than 607,000 in more than four years, resulting in an impressive 121% increase in four years.
In terms of the rate of growth, there was a considerable jump here as well. The average monthly addition to investors grew from about 2,300 per month in FY23/FY24 to 5,300 in FY25, with an even greater spike to 15,860 in FY26.
This indicates how whatever reasons are behind attracting new investors – positive market sentiment, streamlined registration processes, or greater financial education campaigns – have been significantly amplified in the last twelve months alone.
There are several reasons that can be considered responsible for this consistent increase in the level of participation. Firstly, the increased convenience of making online accounts, the increasing awareness about stock market investments among young Pakistanis, and improved sentiment regarding the country’s economy seem to be some of the major driving forces behind such increased participation. With technological innovations improving the investment experience, the ease of entry for new investors, especially the younger generation participating in the stock market for the very first time, seems to have decreased considerably.
As mentioned above, the number of investors at the PSX crossed the half-a-million threshold way back in February 2026. This implies that the number of investors has grown yet again by 100,000 in such a short period, taking the tally to 607,025.
In other words, what is significant about these numbers is that they indicate an even quicker rise in the growth rate, adding to the trend we've seen throughout FY26 regarding investor additions.
