China Postpones Chang'e-7 Lunar Mission Days Before Planned Launch

BEIJING: China has indefinitely delayed its Chang’e-7 mission to explore the moon following an announcement made by its authorities last Sunday and published in state-controlled media outlet News Agency. According to the official release, this call was made following a “comprehensive evaluation” of the preparedness of the mission.

The Chinese uncrewed Chang'e-7 mission will not launch as scheduled because it does not satisfy the necessary conditions. This is according to Xinhua news agency on Friday, quoting unnamed officials. The announcement came without any explanation of the challenges identified with the mission.

"The mission 'does not satisfy the necessary conditions for launch' and thus cannot be launched during this year's designated launch window,' according to state-run Xinhua News Agency on Friday."

Prior to the announcement made on Sunday, China's upcoming Chang'e-7 lunar probe mission, inspired by a Chinese Moon Goddess legend, was expected to commence as soon as next week. However, considering the proximity of this delay to the expected launch timeframe, one can appreciate the importance of the issues which necessitated it.
