4.8-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Swat

SWAT: According to the seismology office, the tremors in Swat measured a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter Scale and had a depth of 166 kilometers. The epicenter was in the Hindu Kush mountains, where there regular tremors that can be felt even in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These tremors are occurring at a considerable depth; this could be the reason why there are no reports of damage so far.
Earthquake Tremors Felt in Swat and Surrounding Areas
Tremors registered in Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa made the people run out of their houses on Monday when an earthquake of moderate magnitude occurred in the area, temporarily causing chaos in the day-to-day activities of the people of the district and its nearby regions. The earthquake was frightening for many people but no injuries or damages were reported.
As per the seismic center, the earthquake tremors experienced in Swat have a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale with a focal depth of 166 kilometers. It has been found that the epicenter lies in the Hindu Kush mountains, which is an area prone to the occurrence of tremors regularly. The fact that this area experiences frequent tremors and has a deep focal depth could explain the lack of any sort of damage so far.
Earthquake shockwaves in Swat caused an instant and noticeable response among the locals. Terrified by the sudden shockwaves, people started rushing out of their buildings and houses, with many of them reciting Kalima Tayyiba while moving to safe grounds. This is normal when moderate earthquakes occur in Pakistan since the country’s residents are highly aware of sudden tremors because of seismic activities on the Hindu Kush fault line.
