The diversified Pakistani company collaborates with Baidu to develop AI infrastructure, foster talent, and promote industry uptake through leveraging the power of PaddlePaddle and Baidu’s full-stack AI solutions, thus preparing itself for the coming era of competitive industries.
Pakistan’s leading diversified company has now connected itself to one of the strongest AI ecosystems in the world. Engro Corporation has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Baidu Inc. to collaborate on aspects such as AI infrastructure, research, training, and industry implementation – among some of the biggest Engro Baidu AI collaborations announced by Pakistan’s IT industry in recent times.
What is included in the AI collaboration between Engro and Baidu
The collaboration between Engro and Baidu taps into the wide range of AI technologies offered by Baidu that include cloud services, deep learning frameworks, big language models, and enterprise applications that can make it easier for the industries and businesses in Pakistan to adopt artificial intelligence. The companies plan to take the collaboration forward using Baidu’s own deep learning framework called PaddlePaddle.
Hussain Dawood, Chairperson of Engro, defined this association on the basis of the competitive edge of the industry in the long run rather than its technological innovation in the short term.
Pillars of the partnership
It is only through these four components that the engagement between Engro and Baidu on artificial intelligence can be seen as a systematic effort to push Pakistani adoption from piloting to integrating artificial intelligence within industrial infrastructure, a shortcoming that has plagued its tech industry.
Certified Training from MIIT Introduces Chinese Standards to Pakistan
The more notable aspects of the collaboration include developing talent by providing artificial intelligence training and certification that is recognized by the Chinese government’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The importance here is that the certification is recognized both in China and other parts of the region, thus providing a certification that is globally recognized rather than only at the domestic level.

Baidu brings scale and changing its business model
As Baidu partners with Engro Baidu on this AI project, it is an important milestone in its growth. The company has moved away from being solely a search firm and is now working towards building its position as an AI ecosystem company, with more than 655 million monthly active users using their AI-focused services. Baidu’s representative affirmed that the use of AI services was proving to be profitable both for businesses and individual consumers, which was the logic behind such a partnership.
The importance of this relationship beyond what the press release says
Pakistan has been signing a lot of tech MoUs that never amount to anything tangible. The unique aspect about the Engro-Baidu AI partnership is that not only does it have a very detailed framework in its four pillar structure, but there’s the reliability of both companies in the deal: Engro, which has a solid track record of operations in various sectors such as energy, agriculture, and infrastructure, and Baidu as an AI company with experience rolling out solutions on a global scale in the corporate space.
