PTA Introduces System to Identify Unregistered Mobile Phones

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) is calling upon consumers to ensure that the mobile phone being purchased is authorized for use in Pakistan's cellular network. This campaign revolves around PTA's own 'unregistered mobile phone identification' scheme, known as the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). Under this system, consumers can determine the authorization status of the handset they wish to purchase prior to purchasing.

Based on statements made by the PTA, DIRBS enables detection, registration, and blocking of non-compliant or illegally imported devices that have not been registered within the country or meet regulatory requirements. The platform plays a crucial role in facilitating identification processes related to unregistered cellphones, providing the regulator with a centralized tool for managing device compliance.

The regulator suggests that consumers ensure verification of a phone's IMEI number prior to buying or even utilizing the device. IMEI numbers are crucial since the regulator's mechanism detects unregistered devices through their IMEI numbers. Consumers will benefit greatly from the regulator's suggestion since they can easily avoid making costly mistakes due to purchases of devices that fail to meet national requirements.

Identify Unregistered Mobile Phones: Ways to Check a Phone's IMEI
