Pakistan online passport application services will transform the country’s passport system: NADRA

ISLAMABAD: The government has planned to provide online facilities for passport applications, enabling people to get passports even at home without going to the passport centers. A meeting was held with Director General Passports Mr. Muhammad Ali Randhawa presiding over the meeting, where the technical team of NADRA was also present.

The authorities reviewed the existing structure of the passport and deliberated on steps to ensure that it is in sync with the demands of the digital age. Officials briefed the delegates on technological advancements that would operate within NADRA’s system framework.

The meeting approved reforms in line with the Interior Minister’s vision for technology-driven public service delivery.

What the System Entails

Under the new framework, citizens will apply for passports through a digital portal. They will not need to visit passport offices during the initial stage. The system will integrate with NADRA’s biometric database for identity verification.

Officials also approved regulatory amendments to provide the legal basis for online applications. Officials have not announced a launch date yet.

Pakistan Passport Online Application to Begin Soon

The biometric information on almost all the adult citizens of Pakistan is available with NADRA. The new system will allow authorities to verify citizens’ identities through digital database integration during passport issuance, something the current office-based process cannot achieve.

Officials emphasized that policy coordination between the two organizations would lay the foundation for future actions.

The Need for Change

In big cities, passport departments often struggle with appointment backlog and overcrowding. People living in small towns must make long journeys to regional passport offices. Pakistanis residing abroad often experience delays in embassies. This system seeks to address these issues by placing the first step of the process online.

Pakistan has been making rapid progress in terms of digitalization in many of its government departments in recent times. The officials claim that there is hope for better ease of service provision to the citizens, with the reduced burden on offices located in regions and a great deal of saved time for them.
