ISLAMABAD: NADRA has launched an iris scanning facility free of charge at all of its registration centers in Pakistan, with the objective of increasing security regarding the identity data of its citizens. This is a major addition to the biometric facilities of NADRA, and it is currently encouraging citizens to use the new facility for protecting their data from any kind of misuse.

NADRA free iris scan service uses the unique characteristics present in the iris of every individual for the purpose of identity verification. Unlike fingerprints, the uniqueness of the iris of every individual stays constant throughout life and it becomes very hard to replicate it, thus making this technology an excellent addition to the existing methods used in Pakistan for identity verification.

NADRA announced this through an awareness campaign, stating that the facility to get a free iris scan is available in all of their centers across the country for free. This implies that every individual in Pakistan, irrespective of his location, has the access to visit the NADRA center nearby him and avail the service freely.

The government has called upon all the people to visit the closest registration office and get their free iris scan done without any further delay. It is being seen that participating in this process early is like taking a preventative action before any loophole can be exploited.

However, NADRA has directed the parents to present the children who are at least three years of age at the registration centres for updating their biometrics records via the process of iris scanning. It is a part of efforts to cover all ages of people in the biometrics database to ensure its reliability in the future.

As per the statement by NADRA, the provision of free-of-cost scanning of irises falls under a broader plan to ensure that biometric identification becomes more reliable and secure. As more citizens use the facility of iris scans, it is expected that the identity check process will become more effective as an automatic result.

The NADRA has requested the citizens to utilize NADRA free iris scan service in a timely manner, adding that an increased number of people availing this facility would make sure that future identity verification systems are easier, more reliable, and more efficient. As biometric fraud and identity theft continue to pose a serious threat, this measure has been offered to the citizens for their protection.
