PIA Looks to Expand Fleet to 60 Aircraft

ISLAMABAD: According to sources in the aviation industry, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is Expanding Fleet to grow and rebuild its fleet under a new approach focused on business revival and growth.

At the moment, the company’s 30-plane fleet is serving with approximately 18 aircraft, but the management intends to concentrate on resurrecting the grounded aircraft in order to increase their operational capability.

Chairman of Arif Habib Consortium Arif Habib has stated that some planes have been under repairs and the engineers have been trying to get them working.

He added that around five or six planes need repairs before returning to operation. He explained that the number of active aircraft could rise to 26 once the work is complete This will boost the scheduling process for flights.

The future plans of PIA Expanding Fleet include increasing the size of their fleet by adding about 60 aircraft via purchases and leases. This strategy is consistent with the objective of improving internal flights and eventually reinstating their international routes.

An expanded fleet will be vital for achieving greater efficiency through more flights as well as re-gaining lost consumer confidence.

However, in terms of the general economy, Arif Habib identified positive changes in the macroeconomic performance of the nation, including better revenue generation and effective fiscal management; however, he highlighted the need for cost-saving measures.

He said there are still difficulties in terms of energy costs, but more efficient energy production capacity utilization will result in lower costs and help boost industries such as aviation.

It is worth noting that although the move shows a good intention, the company must manage to combine growth and proper management in light of the increasing costs associated with aviation worldwide.

The restoration and upgrading process currently taking place is an important stage in the restructuring of PIA, as the management tries to restore its position among other airline companies.
