KARACHI: The operation commenced for the city of Karachi today when plane number PK-860 landed at Jinnah International Airport carrying about 100 passengers coming back from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, thereby commencing the process of bringing the entire contingent back home from the Hajj season.
PIA post-Hajj flight’s arrival ceremony was performed in the presence of Javed Pechuho (PIA Karachi Station Manager), Omar Khan (District Sales Manager), along with other important personalities from PIA to welcome the returning Hajis. Families and relatives were there with bouquets waiting for their dear ones at the airport since Hajj is among the most significant practices in the Islamic faith.
Pilgrims Take Prayers for Pakistan to Mecca
Those returning pilgrims who disembarked from the PIA flight from the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia did not bring only their personal experiences back home with them. Some of these pilgrims, who spoke with the media at the airport, said that they had offered prayers for Pakistan, its economy, and its institutions during their stay in Mecca as part of the Hajj – a testimony to the problems facing the nation today.
“We prayed for the growth and success of our nation, our economy, and our institutions,” said another pilgrim returning from his Hajj, capturing succinctly what it is about Pakistani pilgrims in terms of carrying their national identity into the sacred experience of Hajj. It reflects the fears and aspirations of a country trying to weather an economic crisis through prayer.
Indeed, such a union of spiritual dedication and national responsibility is an ever-occurring motif within Pakistan’s Hajj journey – a nation where the pilgrimage has significance that goes beyond the spiritual commitment of the individual, reaching into the realm of the national act of supplication.

Implications for Returnees From the Post-Hajj Operation
Post-Hajj travelers need to pay attention to the official website of PIA and the flight information system managed by Pakistan Airports Authority about the PIA post-Hajj flights’ schedule. There could be changes in the schedule of the flights during the time when the maximum number of Hajjis are being returned home from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan.
One of the special facilities offered by Pakistan Airports Authority is that of providing special immigration and custom channels for the returning Haj pilgrims in major airports; a move aimed at ensuring that the many tired passengers get through the process in as smooth a manner as possible. If you plan on bringing home Zamzam water along with other things acquired during Haj, then you should learn about the customs allowances.
