Solar Panel Prices in Pakistan Jump Up to Rs9,000 Per Panel Before Budget

ISLAMABAD: Markets reacted even before the budget was announced. There was a rise in the price of the solar panels because of the anticipation of the traders of a hike in the rate of GST by the government from 10% to 18%. It has been reported that the date for the budget announcement is June 10.

Pricing for solar panels in Karachi has already been hiked prior to the release of the federal budget, and the budget has yet to come out. Sources in the market are in agreement that pricing for solar panels before the budget of 2026 will be increased by around Rs7,000 to Rs9,000 per panel based on their wattage, with the main reason cited by traders being the expected increase in GST from 10 percent to 18 percent. The budget comes out on June 10, and if the GST plan does survive the budget, then current pricing is just the start.

Panel 585 watt experiences the steepest increase in terms of percentage, which stands at 50 percent going from Rs 18,000 to Rs 27,000. It is important because panel 585 watts is a lower-end product in the market and is designed for consumers who are most sensitive about the price of panels among Pakistani consumers. An increase by 50 percent in the price of the cheapest panel means pricing out customers who need solar energy the most.

Budget Change Proposal That Is Causing Market Concerns
For FY2026-27, the budget proposal has suggested an increment in the General Sales Tax on solar panels by 8 percent, bringing it up from 10 percent to 18 percent. The traders and distributors of Karachi have already increased the prices of their products as per the expectations of this price hike before the budget was officially announced on June 10. In case the proposal is accepted by the government, there may be further price hikes.

The Solar Panel Price Increase That Led to the Budget Change

It might not just be the price increase of the solar panels in Pakistan before the next year's budget. The worries about inverter prices have surfaced since it is possible that they may increase due to duties imposed by the budget on solar panel equipment. When all the solar panel systems, which include the panels themselves, inverters, mounting, wiring, and installation services, are concerned, then both price increases would lead to significant cost hikes.
