An unusually colorful parrot with a head covered with green and purple feathers, called Spoodles, has been registered in the Guinness World Records books as the oldest living pet parrot in the world, establishing the age of 32 years and 28 days on March 28, 2026. The Guinness World Record of oldest living parrot Spoodles has been registered in Carolina, United States, where the vocal parrot has been living with Amanda Beth for nearly 30 years.

According to Guinness World Records, Spoodles indeed has this accolade, as the bird is truly a remarkable anomaly for a species whose average lifespan in a domestic setting ranges from 15 to 20 years. Spoodles has managed to live 32 years, almost twice the maximum average age of a pet parrot.

A Gift Which Turned into a Record

The story of the world’s oldest parrot, according to Spoodles, is as beautiful as it is unbelievable.

This happened back in 1997 when Amanda Beth was only 23 years old. She was presented with a baby parrot by her mother. This parrot turned out to be Spoodles, who, at that time of being gifted, was three years old and unknowingly began the journey of breaking a world record.

Twenty-nine years down the line, the parrot that her mother had gifted her owns a Guinness World Record. As per the description given by Amanda, Spoodles is a talking and noisy parrot.

What is the Rarity of This Accomplishment?

With regards to being the oldest parrot ever in the world, the Spoodles parrot is in very rare company indeed. As per Guinness World Records, pet parrots generally have a life expectancy of 15 to 20 years in domestic environments.

But Spoodles is already over ten years beyond the life expectancy of the average pet parrot – and keeping on going, as per her owner, who says she still talks and makes noise with the same energy that seems to have been hers all along.

What Makes a Parrot Live That Long?

There is no straightforward explanation from veterinary medicine as to why certain parrots live well beyond what would be considered their natural life expectancy. There are several factors that contribute to parrot life span that have been well-documented.

From what can be clearly seen in the world’s oldest parrot Spoodles case, almost three decades of steady care, stable living conditions, and the kind of human company that talking parrots require have helped in extending its life expectancy beyond the norm for the species.

A Vocal, Chatty Bird Record Holder

Spoodles is the oldest living parrot record-holder in the world, and Amanda introduces this bird which she loves so much — it is chatty, noisy, and is still alive at age 32. Starting as a gift at age 3 from 1997 and finishing up as a record holder in 2026, Spoodles has made his way from being just another birthday gift to an amazing longevity story.
