LAHORE: The Punjab Emergency Services Department Rescue 1122 handled a serious influx of road accidents within 24 hours only, and precisely reported a number of 1,341 incidents Punjab traffic accidents. The statistics disclosed by an emergency services spokesperson indicate a grim casualty rate, whereby 17 deaths have been recorded along with injuries sustained by 1,594 persons.
The demographic structure among the casualties shows that 1,246 males and 348 females sustained injuries. Since the degree of impact from the crashes differs, first aid was provided to 877 victims on the spot, whereas 717 of the most severely injured victims were transported by emergency personnel to several hospitals in the region.
Geographic distribution: Lahore Comes Out as Leading Risk Area
According to the statistics, the following are some of the high risk urban areas identified within the province, with the provincial capital city reporting the highest number of vehicular accidents:
- Lahore: Maximum cases of vehicular accidents took place here, i.e., there were 268 cases of vehicle accidents.
- Multan: Second highest figure was of vehicle-related accidents; 100 cases took place here.
- Faisalabad: Number of cases of victims reported from this city was 69.
Upon careful consideration of the data mentioned regarding Rescue 1122, most victims were found to be motorcyclists. This is because two-wheelers do not have any sort of safety structure that protects riders from serious injuries when they collide with other vehicles.

It was made clear by emergency personnel that through proper civic duty and adherence to rules of transportation, Punjab traffic accidents could easily be avoided. The Emergency Services Department encourages all motorists to adopt the following safety precautions into their daily routine:
Respect Speed Limits: The driver will have to synchronize his/her speed with the speed limits set for that specific road. Over speeding is the major reason for the loss of control which causes a high-level collision.
Turns and Lane Changing: The driver must be extremely cautious when turning and switching lanes to ensure that the driver is aware of his/her surroundings.
Concentration on the Road: Motorists must concentrate on the road only and not get distracted by other activities like chatting on their cell phones.
Protect Riders: All the riders of the motorcycle should ensure that they wear their helmet and maintain an adequate distance from the large trucks.
