A complete overhaul of the new electricity billing system has been introduced by the Power Division of the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with all the DISCOs of Pakistan. This New electricity bill format is a big leap forward for the government’s consumer-based policy approach towards streamlining administrative processes, increasing transparency, and ensuring ease of reading.
Over the years, there have been numerous complaints by electricity consumers on the over-crowding, technicality, and repetitiveness of the bill designs. As a way of addressing the issues raised, the Power Division has removed all the unimportant elements and ensured that the monthly figures are presented in a well-structured format.
Enhancements in the Improved Utility Bills
The New electricity bill format is based only on the elements that are significant for the consumer. The redesign removes any need for citizens to struggle with complex legalese and blocks of information, as it features several vital improvements in the structure of the template:
At-a-Glance Presentation: The new layout utilizes a clean grid format, whereby all the necessary data is featured, including the total amount that needs to be paid, the due date, and the exact units of electricity used.
Technical Overlap Elimination: This is achieved by eliminating overlapping computations and technical information, which has caused past problems related to disputes over billing.
Universally Accessible Bills: With reduced levels of visual clutter, anyone regardless of educational background or socioeconomic status will be able to understand their bills easily.
QR Code Usage: In order to make bill payments easier, the new bill design integrates QR codes. Through smartphone scanning of the QR code, additional historical information and digital payment systems become readily available.

Addressing Persistent Consumer Complaints
As per the statement issued by the spokesperson from the Power Division, customer complaints were the key guidelines when planning for the restructuring. In the former model, critical information was frequently obscured by several layers of taxation calculations and historical footnotes.
