One day in particular rises above all others – September 9th, Wednesday.
Tuesday, September 8th can be ruled out. Apple never holds its keynote the day after Labor Day — the company needs time to fly international press and guests into Cupertino. With Labor Day landing on September 7 this year, September 8 simply does not work.
September 9 is something more familiar. It’s the same date that Apple chose to launch its keynote for both years 2024 and 2025. September 14, however, is another option for a week after that, though it will move the date of being available for sale into September 25 – a time frame not typical for Apple’s premium products.
What Devices Apple Will Launch?
Three devices will be introduced by Apple during the upcoming launch. Apart from the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, there will also be another smartphone launched – a foldable device that might have the name of either iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold.

However, this is the first time Apple has dabbled in making foldable smartphones despite Samsung and Google having explored it over the years. Foldable screen technology creates major production challenges, so Apple may launch the iPhone Ultra weeks after unveiling all three devices together.

Assuming the September 9 keynote holds, here is how the rest of the schedule unfolds:
- iOS 27 General Release: Monday, September 15 or Tuesday, September 16
- Pre-Orders Open: Friday, September 11, at 8 a.m. Pacific Time
- First Reviews Publish: Tuesday, September 16 or Wednesday, September 17
- iPhone 18 Pro & Pro Max On Sale: Friday, September 19
- iPhone Ultra On Sale: Likely one to two weeks later, around September 26

Why the iPhone Ultra May Launch Separately
Apple has strong incentive to stagger the iPhone Ultra’s release. Foldable screen production demands tighter tolerances and longer lead times. Beyond logistics, a separate launch gives Apple two distinct moments in the news cycle — a strategy that doubles its media impact without hosting two events.
The iPhone Air proved Apple can deliver a new form factor on schedule. Whether the Ultra follows that precedent or charts its own timeline, September will belong to Apple again.
